Jim Sampson has been a volunteer SIHH for several years. Jim not only helps out on the job site, but he also helps Gary with critical repairs, which is super helpful as . We recently interviewed Jim and loved his answers. Get to know Jim by reading the interview below!
- How did you first get involved with Sea Island Habitat For Humanity or another Habitat affiliate?
JS: Helped start an affiliate in Florida in 2000. Worked with another Church building homes under Atlanta Habitat. When I moved to Charleston, I started volunteering with SIHH after happenstance meeting John Rhoden at the Restore.
2. How long have you been volunteering with SIHH or other Habitat affiliates?
JS: Started with SIHH in early 2018.
3. What is your favorite job to do when volunteering?
JS: Inside trim work, siding, whatever needs to be done.
4. What is your least favorite job to do when volunteering?
JS: Probably painting.
5. What is your fondest memory with Sea Island Habitat?
JS: Working with Mr. Jerome on his home. Great guy. Also on repair with Gary, Ms. Gloria's ramp. Another great person. I enjoy being able to meet and work with homeowners.
6. What are your other favorite hobbies outside of working for us for free?
JS: Don't have many hobbies. Like to read, spend time with grandsons, and help others.
7. What is your weirdest or most interesting talent or fact about yourself?
JS: I celebrated our great country's bicentennial in 1976, riding the Bikecentennial Trail from Virginia to Oregon with a group of 14 riders.
8. If you could acquire a magical skill, what would it be and why?
JS: Never given that one much thought.
9. If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
JS: Lewis and Clark. Would find it fascinating to hear about their encounters and what our country was like before there was so many people.
