Together, we can help local families
achieve the dream of homeownership
On Johns Island, where the Lowcountry sky opens wide and live-oaks arch toward the marsh, something special is coming to life: Sweetgrass Preserve: A Neighborhood of Hope.
This is not just another housing development. It’s a bold promise to create 50 volunteer built one-, two- and three-bedroom affordable homes, designated for hardworking local families earning up to 80% of area median income.
These families, many employed in hospitality, retail, and service-jobs across our islands, are the backbone of our region. They serve our communities, keep our beaches and developments vibrant, and yet too often struggle to live near where they work.
With your support, Sweetgrass Preserve will help reduce long commutes, strengthen neighborhood ties, and anchor families in a place they can call home. Today we invite you to be part of that promise - to help fund each of these homes, and to give these families keys to a brighter future.
Building Sweetgrass Preserve: 50 Homes. Endless Hope.
Our goal is bold: to fully fund and build all 50 homes, each one representing a family’s dream of stability, dignity, and a safe place to call home.
We know we can achieve this with the strength of our community behind us. Together with volunteers, donors, and neighbors working hand in hand we can make Sweetgrass Preserve a reality and ensure that the people who serve and enrich our Sea Islands community can also live and thrive here.
Every contribution moves us closer to this shared vision. When we come together as a community, we don’t just build houses—we build hope, belonging, and a future for generations to come.

The Heart of Sweetgrass Preserve
Behind every home we build is a story of perseverance, hope, and faith in the future. The first families approved for homeownership in Sweetgrass Preserve embody the strength and spirit of the Sea Islands — hardworking, community-minded neighbors who are ready to put down roots and build stability for generations to come.
Their journeys remind us why our mission matters: when families have safe, affordable homes, our entire community grows stronger.
Enma and Yair are devoted parents striving to give their son with autism the stability he needs to thrive. Frequent rental moves have made that difficult, but through Habitat homeownership, they hope to finally build a safe, affordable place where their family can grow and find lasting peace.
